Note: Many local, State, Federal & other Governments around the world have several types of mining related PDF maps and mining Data to download for FREE. They are also making available most of their GIS Data (geology & mines) to download for use in a GIS program or you can view their data with your web browser in their “Online Map Viewer”. Some Government agencies are now providing Free GIS Data in a KML or KMZ format that can be used in Google Earth (download for Free with the link above).
Many Universities around the U.S. hold rare collections of Historical Documents & Maps that are hundreds of years old. Some of these collections of documents and maps may be from other States besides the State the University is located in. In some of the links to online maps above you may not be able to download a large map but you may be able to get the information you are looking for. Just knowing a certain map exists can help with your research efforts since there are sometimes more than one online source for the map your looking for and knowing the correct map title or map name, authors name and/or date it was published can help.
